If you just want to download the drivers for CMI8738/C3DX for Windows XP, please click here. There are a few specific installation instructions below which you might want to check first.
Here is a step-by-step guide to install C-media External Midi (Mpu401) Device driver.
1. Download from the link above and unpack it.
2. Before installation please make sure your External Midi (Mpu401) Device is connected to your computer.
3. Find the Device Manager on your My Computer icon.
4. Browse to media category and click the new External Midi (Mpu401) Device. You will find Reinstall Driver button. Click it.
5. You should "Install from specific location" select the C-Mediadriver. It is located in the folder where you unpacked it. Please click the INF file, Next button and Finish button to complete the driver installation.
6. Please verify that there's a new working External Midi (Mpu401) Device inside device manager.
The file that you can download here provides the driver and the Mixer control panel for your C-Media 8738 Sound cards and onboard chips. You will be able to install the 5.12.01.0644 driver version. You will be able to configure the 8738 card/chip, assign speakers, disable or enable the MIDI & game port, assign the phone jacks. There's a readme file in the download package which will give you more information.
