Intel motherboards often featured SoundMax audio controller. You will need to download and install the driver, but also to figure out if you have some specific problems which are common with SoundMax. We'll help you with anything that may come your way.
Intel ThinkPad
If you have a ThinkPad and can't hear a thing, download the driver for ThinkPads R40, R50, R50e, R50p, R51, T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, X31, X32, X40 and possibly others with SoundMax.
Toshiba Laptops
Problems with sound on Toshiba Laptops seem to be pretty frequent. If you have the driver CD that is delivered with the laptop, you are in luck. You could also solve your problems with installing the driver from a restore CD - you can find the driver files using any file browser.
Dell
The best way to solve your audio problems is to download the driver from Dell support site. Search for "Audio: Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio, Driver, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Multi Language, Multi System" and download the latest update you can find.
If you are sure you have the right driver but you can't get it to work, you should make sure you have the latest BIOS update. In many instances, outdated BIOS is preventing newer drivers from working properly. To update your BIOS, you should check your motherboard manufacturer's web site.
