LaserJet P1006 – Troubleshooting Notes (DriverFiles)
This page exists because people kept arriving convinced the LaserJet P1006 driver was the problem. In practice, some issues cleared without touching drivers, others shifted with OS updates, and several cases stayed confusing or inconsistent. These notes reflect what actually happened when driver-focused fixes were attempted and where that assumption broke down.
Problem: Printer reports “error state” after reconnecting on Windows 10
What users observed: The printer worked briefly on a newer Windows 10 system, then suddenly entered an error state and refused to print. No clear warning or failure message explained the change.
What was tried: Attention focused on Windows compatibility and driver status. No software changes initially corrected the error.
Where this sometimes ended: Power and cartridge removal followed by waiting restored normal behavior.
Problem: Print jobs report as completed but nothing prints
What users observed: The printer appeared installed and set as default. Test pages and documents reported successful completion, yet the printer remained silent. The same device worked normally on another system.
What was tried: Reinstallation and setup tools were used without changing the outcome.
What this turned out to be: An operating system–level issue introduced by a prior update.
Where this sometimes ended: A later OS update restored printing without altering the printer driver.
Problem: Printing stops after system changes or additional software installs
What users observed: The printer functioned correctly after setup but stopped printing unless the system was rebooted. Jobs appeared finished in the queue even though no output occurred.
What was tried: Multiple driver packages were tested. The issue appeared after installing other printer software and unrelated applications.
How this played out: Rolling back to an earlier system state restored normal printing.
Problem: Diagnostic tools hang or fail to complete
What users observed: Printer diagnostic utilities stalled while searching for the device. Driver installers appeared partially present but could not be removed or repaired.
What was tried: Reinstall attempts, cleanup actions, and switching USB ports did not restore printing. System restarts became unusually long.
How this played out: The printer remained unusable. Driver entries stayed in a broken state, and printing never resumed.
Problem: Print queue stuck and jobs cannot be cleared
What users observed: Documents remained stuck in the queue, blocking all new prints. Attempts to cancel jobs failed.
What was tried: Focus shifted away from the driver to print services.
Where this sometimes ended: Clearing the stalled queue allowed printing to resume. No confirmation tied the fix to the printer driver itself.
Problem: Printer no longer recognized by Windows 10
What users observed: After long periods of non-use, the printer powered on normally but was not detected on multiple Windows 10 systems. Test pages would not print.
What was tried: USB cables were swapped and reinstall attempts failed because the system could not find the printer.
What this turned out to be: A mismatch between how Windows expected the device to be connected and how the installer behaved.
Where this sometimes ended: Installing the driver before connecting the printer allowed detection. Even then, the printer entered a paused state that had to clear before printing worked.
