Updating drivers on a Mac device generally requires more steps than a simple Windows update. That being said, here are the HP printer drivers for Mac, as well as a short guide on how to properly install them.
Firstly, in order to get your hands on the latest drivers, scroll to the bottom of this page, complete the Captcha, and press the Download button. This will trigger the download of the universal printer driver created specifically for MacOS users.
Now that you have access to the file, here’s how to set up the printer drivers. Firstly, try restarting your Mac device in order to trigger the installation in the background. When you start the machine again, you can configure your printer either on the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac or through a USB connection without the need for additional driver installations.
If your printer is already on the network or connected via USB, it may already be set up. In the application you're printing from, navigate to File > Print. If your printer appears in the list, it's ready to use.
If not, access the Printer menu, choose it from the Nearby Printers list, or go to Printers & Scanners preferences/settings to add it. If your printer doesn't show up, follow these steps:
- For a USB connection or if your printer doesn't support AirPrint, use Spotlight to find and open Software Update. Ensure your Mac is up to date or install any available software.
- Connect the printer to the same network as the Mac or use a direct USB connection.
- For Wi-Fi connection on printers with a touchscreen control panel, access the Setup, Network, or Wireless settings menu, select Wireless Setup Wizard, and follow the on-screen instructions to choose the network and input the password.
- For Wi-Fi connection on most printers without a touchscreen control panel, press and hold the Wireless button for five seconds or until the wireless light starts flashing. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on the router until the connection process begins. The wireless light stops flashing when the connection is complete.
- Otherwise, press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Power button on the back of the printer for five seconds until the blue bar flashes. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the router until the connection process starts. The blue bar stops flashing when the connection is complete.
- For a wired (Ethernet) network connection, connect the network cable to the printer's Ethernet port and to an available port on the router or access point. Ensure the green light at the printer port is steady, and the orange activity light blinks.
- For a USB connection, connect the cable to the USB port on the back of the printer and to a port on the Mac. Install any new software if prompted.
Click the Spotlight icon, search for and open Printers & Scanners. If your printer isn't listed, click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax, or the Add button, and follow the instructions to complete the setup.
