HP LaserJet Pro M201dw – Troubleshooting Notes (DriverFiles)

Most people ended up here because the wireless setup or printing suddenly stopped, and the driver was the obvious suspect. This page exists to document what actually happened once that assumption was tested.

Problem: Wi-Fi not found

What users observed: The wireless light blinked continuously, the printer could not see any wireless networks, and setup repeatedly failed with a configuration error. USB-based setup attempts did not complete, even though internet access was working.

What was tried: Re-running the setup through different connection methods did not change the failure state.

What this turned out to be: The wireless setup was disabled because Ethernet was connected.

Where this sometimes ended: Wireless setup only became possible after the wired connection was removed. Until then, the printer behaved as if Wi-Fi did not exist.

Problem: Printer shows offline and refuses to print

What users observed: The printer appeared offline and would not accept jobs. No specific error clarified why it had dropped out.

What was tried: Network checks, restarts, resets, and software changes were attempted.

How this played out: The record does not confirm a stable resolution. The offline state was treated as a driver issue, but no single change clearly fixed it.

Problem: Cannot print from work laptop while connected to VPN

What users observed: Setup completed without errors, but no test page printed, and the device could not be used from one laptop. A different computer on the same network printed without issue.

What was tried: Reinstalling and cleaning out printer software was attempted to rule out driver corruption.

How this played out: Printing from the affected laptop never worked in this state. The issue did not clearly trace back to the printer driver itself.

Problem: AirPrint not visible on the main Wi-Fi network

What users observed: Desktop systems printed normally, but mobile devices could not see the printer at all. AirPrint only appeared when connecting directly to the printer’s own wireless mode.

What was tried: Protocol settings on the printer were changed repeatedly without affecting visibility.

What this turned out to be: The router was not forwarding multicast traffic between wireless devices.

Where this sometimes ended: AirPrint began working once multicast forwarding was enabled at the router level.

Problem: Menu access lost

What users observed: The control panel reported that menu access was disabled. Network access failed completely, including basic reachability.

What was tried: Attempts to access settings normally failed due to the locked state.

Where this sometimes ended: The printer returned to a usable state only after a full factory reset cleared the locked configuration.

Problem: Printer stuck in “paused” state

What users observed: Print jobs would not run because the printer showed as paused. There was no clear reason why it entered that state.

What was tried: Queue checks and connection reviews were suggested, but no confirmed outcome was recorded.

How this played out: The input does not confirm that the paused condition was fully resolved.

Problem: Duplex printing unavailable on Windows 11

What users observed: Duplex printing could not be enabled or used when printing wirelessly. The option behaved as if unsupported.

What was tried: Software and settings were left unchanged.

Where this sometimes ended: Duplex printing only became available after switching to a direct wired connection. Wireless use continued to limit the feature.
